We all love our comfort zones.
Love the knowable.
Claim we’re open to change, to taking chances.
Sure, there are some chances we can take, taking a different route home, ordering something wild and spicy from our usual menu.
But what about taking a chance on something that can really affect your life? Or what you think can change your life? Are you really willing to strike out on that road less traveled? On that bumpier, unexplored passageway? And one person’s “chance” is another’s breakfast cereal. But, if it’s scary to you…that’s what matters.
Are you willing to look into the void?
Insanity has been described as doing the same thing yet expecting a different outcome.
If we expect to break out of our comfort zones, we can’t keep doing the same old thing. But, we all have our parameters, don’t we? And that’s okay. It’s not usually a good thing to totally upend one’s life. But we can initiate change in other ways…the way we think, the way we behave. What we “put out” into the world.
Take a chance. In whatever way that works for you. That’s good for you.
That’s scary for you.

Is someone thinking about quitting his day-job?
fpdorchak says
No, not looking to quit the day job. :-] But am looking at some “daring” work to release next year. But it all just got me to thinking, how so many of us talk-the-talk, yet I rarely see any in my circle of influence who actually walk-the-talk….

Scary, super Halloween scary. I’m risk averse and yet I take the crazy chance to write yet another something that could net me no money…. only time spent. Why? Because there is a risk in it that doesn’t put body or soul at stake… or does it??????? Happy spook month!
fpdorchak says
Well, there’s YOUR risk, Inky! Risk adverse or not, you’re still taking *your* chances. That’s good. Keep it up! :-]
Thanks, and a happy spook month to all!

Great advice, Frank. Serling took a huge chance when he created Twilight Zone: http://thenightgallery.wordpress.com/2012/02/25/serlings-winning-gamble/ (I know you’ve seen this post; I’m including the link for others.) Almost every great endeavor starts when someone does something risky. Good post (and memorably short!).

Thanks, and, yes, it was short—and I was actually AIMING for “short”!
No risk…no reward…no GROWTH. :-]
